January 2015 Good Reads
/Alright y'all. I have diverted from my regularly scheduled reading plan a bit and have not shared my updated reads yet. WOOPS. When I last left you on the blog in November, I was here with my reading list:

What I failed to mention was that before I started that bottom row of books, I had also read two others and started yet another. Long story short, my book postings have gotten all over the map. Eeps. So this is the grand "update on everything I am reading and where I am heading" post.
Read It
Crazy Rich Asians: It takes place in China and Singapore and dives in to the lives of the incredibly rich in Asia. This books is hilarious and fascinating. I found it to be a fun, sort of cultural insight that I likely would not have otherwise discovered. I was totally not surprised to learn that it has been optioned for a movie. Loved it.
Crazy Rich Asians Rating: 8.5 out of 10... oh heck, it was so fun, 9 out of 10!
The Children Act: Let me put it to you this way... I am a lawyer who worked for a domestic law judge and I hated this book. It had no point and it threw in this not well-developed love story that was just not good. I do not recommend this bad boy.

Bittersweet: A kind of rich family thriller that you sort of don't see coming. A page turner, but the end sort of left me wondering if I totally got it. I also have decided that I would prefer a longer book as opposed to a three years later, here is how it turned out kind of situation.

Me Before You: You knew how this one was going to end but you cried anyway. A gem amongst these kind of tragic sort of dramas. Good story writing and descriptions of space and characters. I think it makes a good beach read... you know if a few salty tears mixed with salt water don't bother you.

Unbroken: My boss gave me this book to borrow and despite its length and detail, I finished it in two weeks. I wept, I cringed, and I really felt like I had a better understanding of WWII after reading this book. I recommend it for all people including high schoolers. It is SO SO SO SO good. Hillenbrand is amazing.
Unbroken Rating: 10 out 10 (my first perfect score for a book)
Not that Kind of Girl: Esther gave me this one to borrow and I am not sure what I feel about it even now. There were chapters of this book that I loved and anyone who can lay their world bare with this kind of honesty is amazing to me. Other parts were so so. But if you love Girls (the show) you'll at least like it.
Not that Kind of Girl Rating: 6.5 out of 10.

A Return to Love: Reflections on the Principles of A Course in Miracles: This book is a life changer. A must read. And the best Christmas present I have ever received. Esther and I are reading this together and I am going to post a full reflection once I digest it all. Just read it with us!
A Return to Love Rating: 10 out of 10 for life changing capabilities.
All the Light We Cannot See: I think this is again another book that high schoolers everywhere should read about WWII. I have no finished it yet, but at about half-way through I am starting to get concerned about the ending. It is beautifully written and I am not devouring this one for fear of it ending. FANTASTIC!
